The State Government has decided to present Ranchi SSP Prabhat Kumar, his bodyguard Faizal and deceased driver Rumul Sawaiya with State Gallantry Award, for their undaunted role in an encounter with the naxals on Ranchi-Khunti border on Tuesday.
Chief Minister Raghubar Das has also recommended Ranchi SSP for the prestigious President’s Award. Kumar and Faizal were injured during the encounter and are undergoing medical treatment. Rumul died during the encounter. The medical expenses for their treatment will be borne by the State, Das said.
CM has also announced that Rumul’s wife, Belo Sango, will be appointed on compassionate ground and the house where his family is living will be allotted to them. Also by his order, Faizal is to be promoted to the rank of Head Constable from Constable. Das visited Medica Super Speciality Hospital to meet SSP Kumar and Faizal and wished them well. He also paid his last respects to Rumul at Police Line on Wednesday.
On this occasion, he handed over cheques worth ten lakh rupees as compensation and service earnings of Rs 77.40 lakh, two lakh rupees of life insurance and expenses for last rites in cash. Das also declared that the education expenses for Rumul’s two sons, Ajit and Amit, will be borne by the State.
“The development and honour of the state are affected by such extremist activities. They should know that the Govt will leave no stone unturned in uprooting the extremist menace from the state,” Das said.
