Area : 3533 sq. kms.

District Headquarter : JAMSHEDPUR

History : In 1991 the district of Singhbhum was bifurcated to form Pashchimi and Purbi Singhbhum. Besides the district headquarter of Jamshedpur the other towns in the district are Chakulia, Ghatshila, Jadugora and Musabani. The Blocks in the district are : Baharagora, Chakulia, Dhalbhumgarh, Dumaria , Ghatshila, Golmuri, Musabani, Patamda and Potka. There are 1750 villages in the district.

Communication : Good roads connect the nearby areas. The National Highway connecting Calcutta and Ranchi also passes through the district. Tatanagar railway station is on the main Calcutta-Mumbai line. Jamshedpur aslo has an airport. Though earlier commercial flights were there but now there are no commercial flights operated from Jamshedpur. The nearest commercial airport is Ranchi.

Agriculture : Paddy is the main crop. Wheat, oil seeds and vegetables are also grown.

Industries : TISCO and TELCO are the major big industries. Tinplate Company, Indian Cable Company, Indian Copper Corporation, Indian Tube Company are the other industries. Uranium Corporation also has its unit at Jadugora.
