Eight persons were killed including three children and more than 54 people got injured when a school bus carrying more than 100 baraatis flipped on its side at a bend near Patratu Valley, 25km from capital Ranchi, on Sunday afternoon. The driver, according to the people on board, was drunk, who lost control over the vehicle at a sharp turn and dashed into the railing beside the road.
Chief minister Raghubar Das, expressing concern over the incident, has announced an ex gratia of Rs 1 lakh for each of the bereaved families and Rs 20,000 for the injured.×
List of the persons who got killed include mostly teens and were residents of Nagri village. The deceased have been identified as Chandan Oraon(15), Rahul Toppo (15), Rohan Oraon (13), Sudeep Toppo (16), Budhram Lohra (40), Lala Toppo (18) and Musa Toppo, 7. One injured person Neeraj Toppo (25) died today in RIMS.
The injured have been admitted to RIMS in Bariatu while the bodies have been sent to the same state-run hospital's mortuary. The badly damaged bus was rescued with the help of a crane. There is no official word on whether the driver was injured, but sources claimed he fled the spot soon after the accident.
