The State Cabinet on Tuesday approved a special purpose vehicle — Jharkhand Urban Transport Corporation Limited for executing monorail project in Ranchi. The SPV would look into the execution part of the monorail and will ensure rapid development of the proposed infrastructure that has been planned for the capital.
The SPV will function under a Managing Director who will be assisted by other staff on the project. The significant development is clubbed with 14 other proposals approved by the State Cabinet today. “The primary objective of the SPV would be to develop rapid transport system and would function in that direction,” said Cabinet Secretary SS Meena.
The monorail, which is touted to be one of the most ambitious projects, to end traffic woes and provide Ranchiites a hassle-free mode of transportation, would be stretched upto Greater Ranchi and proposals were being considered to provide connectivity up to the proposed new building of Project Building. Notably, the State government had approved the project with emphasis on a comprehensive mobility plan for 30 years to ease the burden on the capital’s roads.
Sources had divulged that the extended network envisages two additional stations — Jagannathpur and near CRPF camp in Dhurwa — had been suggested on the extended route.
