Veteran International Compound Archer Jhano Hansda, a Sub-Inspector (SI) in State Police, cried foul on Saturday over denial of promotion to her, saying it did not happen as she is a Scheduled Tribe (ST).Hansda burst into tears after Additional Director General of Police (JAP) Rezi Dungdung felicitated her in his office for clinching three medals in Fairfax World Police and Fire Games 2015 held at Virginia (USA) from June 26 to July 5.
Hansda, who was given the SI's job in 2007 for her outstanding performance in sports, has won several medals for the nation and fulfills all criteria for promotion to the rank of DSP."I bagged dozens of medals for the nation but those junior to me with two or three international medals have been promoted. ST hoon isiliye aaj tak promotion nahi mila. Bakiyo ko mil gaya. Mere saath bhedbhav hua hain. (I am a tribal, so did not get promotion. Others have got it. I have been discriminated). I am here to seek justice and not to compare with others," she said referring to Boxer Aruna Mishra, an Inspector in the State Police.
A resident of Jamshedpur, her participation in national and international meets started in 1997. In Virginia, she got gold medals for Target Archery, Field Archery and 3D Archery events. She and Aruna were together chosen through All India Police Games performance while remaining made it with independent entries.
