AJSU leaders Kamal Kishore Bhagat and Alester Bodra, found guilty on Monday for extortion and attempt to murder case by a Ranchi court, were sentenced seven years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) along with a fine in the tune of Rs15,000.
With this, Assembly membership of Bhagat remains cancelled automatically in the light of the recent Supreme Court judgement. Bhagat was elected MLA from Lohardaga on AJSU’s ticket during the recent Assembly elections in the State.
“A fast-track court of Additional Judicial Commissioner III Krishna Kumar has awarded seven-year rigorous imprisonment to both of them. Fine of Rs15,000 fine has also been slapped on them,” said Public Prosecutor BN Sharma.
Sharma further explained that in case of attempt to murder (Section 307) they have been awarded seven years of imprisonment along with a fine of Rs10,000 failing which, they will have to remain in jail for extra one year.
